The Somme3 day 2 night tour

Tour Itinerary

 

Day 1 - Our tour begins in the ancient fortified town of Peronne and its Museum Of  The Great War ., with it’s thousands of exhibits from the area . From Peronne we will head to Delville wood  scene of some of the most deadly fighting during the Battle Of The Somme . The site contains a small Museum , monuments and cemeteries . Our final stop on day one is Highwood , here you will learn of the battles to gain control of this piece of  high ground , in the surrounding area you will see the various

 Monuments and graves .

 

DAY 2 - Day 2 starts at Thiepval and it’s monument to the missing

Containing the names over 72000 soldiers missing in action , the site also has a very good visitors center . A short distance away we will visit the Ulster memorial . The memorial stands close to the German frontline of

1st July 1916 , you will see the Ulster tower , museum and the Connaught and Mill road cemeteries in the area . Stop three on day 2 is the

Newfoundland Memorial Park  , here we will walk the trench lines and view the visitors center . Sheffield Park memorial is our 4th stop of day 2 ,

This site is the only section of the battlefield that has been preserved by the British , In the surrounding area you will see the numerous memorials dedicated to the Pals Regiments , we will also make a stop at Serre Road number 1 and number cemeteries . Our last stop of the day is the

Lochnager Crater  , the largest British mine crater on the Western front detonated 1st July 1916 .

 

DAY 3 - Our final day of the tour starts at the Albert Musee Des Adris located in a series of tunnels below the Basillica Square , here there are numerous reconstructions of trench scenes and dugouts . Attached Is a very good shop selling battlefield relics (safe ones) . From Albert we make our way to the final stop of the tour , Sunken Road . At 07.30 on the 1st July 1916 the Lancashire's rose up out of the lane and were cut down within metres , we will also visit the memorials and cemeteries surrounding the lane .
